Magnificent Seven

I would very much like to upgrade the Znuny (née OTRS) 6.5 installation I’m running to a more recent version. Current is 7.2.3. There aren’t many important new features, but of the ones that are there, some management improvements (in the database schema, console, and admin area) would be worth the effort.

Unfortunately 7’s UI, even nearly three years after its first release, is still completely unusable, or rather, I could not in good conscience require anyone to use it.

I understand that after forking OTRS the Znuny people had to somehow make their mark on it to differentiate it from its sadly departed predecessor (to quote David Madore’s brilliant Tolkien adaptation, “for into license fell its tar in [6.5] where the shadows are.").

So they let the designers loose on the poor application, and ****, did they deliver. The first time I tried 7.0 I thought I was looking at an elaborate prank. When I realized I was not, I let loose myself with a possibly somewhat hyperbolic bug report. It has gotten better since, but not by much. The latest update in the bug promises that the “upcoming” LTS version of 7 will improve things more.

Let’s hope for the best.
